I’m struggling to sleep

Question.. When I go to bed at night (and although I’m tired) I find it really difficult to get to sleep and will spend hours tossing and turning. This leaves me feeling shattered in the morning and unable to concentrate fully when I get to work. My friend suggested medicating, but is there anything that I can do that doesn’t involve sleeping tablets? Answer.. Yes! Many people struggle with their sleeping pattern due to unnecessary stresses during their everyday life. Stress can be triggered by lots of things; from money worries to life purpose. The limbic brain, due to its incredible storyteller skills will rattle scenarios around your head all night long if you let it. Making things seem better that they are, or even worse than they are. Thing is, whatever is going on in your head, when you should be resting is most probably a load of tosh! The limbic doesn’t care that you are tired and need to be refreshed for...

My Life is Hectic

Question…. There are times I feel so stressed, especially when my life is so hectic.  It’s not unusual for me to be constantly busy, I’m a single mum of two teens, I have a part-time job and I’m also attempting to get my new business off the ground. I feel like there’s no time to stop and take time out to relax. I wish that I could slow down and be kinder to myself, however just the thought of doing this sends me into a panic that I won’t be able to keep up!  Do you have any advice? Answer…. Breathe…. Take a long deep breath and hold for the count of 9, then release the breath out slowly. Now let’s get started… There are three parts of the brain, the Reptilian (back), the Limbic (middle) and the Prefrontal Cortex (front). The limbic brain is responsible for the emotional side of life and in times of stress and overwhelm all it sees is danger! Firstly,...

I suffer from anxiety and was wondering if there’s an alternative treatment, other than using medication?

Question.. I suffer from anxiety and was wondering if there’s an alternative treatment, other than using medication? Is it possible to treat anxiety effectively using a more holistic approach? Answer.. Anyone suffering with General Anxiety Disorder (GAD) feels anxious about almost anything and everything. There’s a constant nag that something isn’t quite right and this causes a person to over-worry about everything that could possibly go wrong. This consistent behaviour pattern strengthens the brains wiring which perceives everything as a potential threat or danger and the consequences overtime can have a devastating impact on the individual’s mental health and wellbeing. Spending time replaying unhelpful scenarios over and over in our heads will increase the level of psychological distress, as the brain accepts everything, as if it’s happening in the now. The brain can’t differentiate between imagined or real and puts the body into a state of high alert just in case the worst was to happen. It might sound crazy, but an individual who consistently...

I’m Stressed

Question: I always have great ideas and want to create something wonderful, however I find at times that I simply feel totally overwhelmed and unable to follow through. It seems that I’m more stressed out now than I’ve ever been. Can you help? Answer: How often do you let your mind run away with itself, playing around with scenarios about the future and what’s in store for you? How do you see it unfolding, how it will turn out? Thing is no matter how much we play around with what might be, quite often it never turns out the way we’d like it to. Our ability to accurately predict the future is very slim, it all comes down to guess work or luck. Now here’s the contradiction, we all have the capability to influence what lies ahead of us, where we are going and who we will be. Our future all depends on the quality of the messages we send to our non-conscious brain...

I seem to always get sick and have to take time off

Question: I seem to always get sick and have to take time off. I don’t know why, but if anyone has a sniffle it’s not long before I get a cold, or even worse the flu. Do you have any ideas how to improve my immune system? Answer: When you get ill you probably think that it’s because of the germs that are in the air that are contributing to your health and well-being. That’s only true if you want it to be true. So would it surprise you to know that it’s not the germs that are making you sick but the quality of your thoughts? If you hold the belief that the germs will give you a cold, then a cold you will get. Germs only exist because we believe they do. We only get sick because we believe we will get sick. So therefore, isn’t it also true that we are healthy and strong, if we choose to believe it so? Thoughts...

How can I heal myself without taking medication?

Question.. How can I heal myself without taking medication?  Answer.. In order to establish a healthy body, first you must create a healthy mind and this all begins with the quality of your thought processes and how often you fire them. The Reticular Activating System (RAS) is located in the base of your brain and acts as a filter. It’s constantly gathering information both from our internal and external environment. Using sight and sound to access any situation and that in turn will filter down into the non-conscious brain and will determine what you ultimately believe. So with so much information how does your RAS know what’s important? Well it’s all about where you place your energy. What you spend time thinking about and how you talk to yourself. Simply put, it’s where you place your focus. For example, have you noticed when individuals consistently tell themselves that they are always sick, that theyare always sick? Have you ever heard someone sneeze and think to yourself,...

My Life is Out of Control

Question.. I feel like my life is out of control and that I’m always stressed. I don’t know what life is like not feeling like this. What can I do to live a normal life without too much stress? Answer.. Every day you are bombarded with daily responsibilities, tasks and challenges that all contribute to your stress levels, creeping up until you find it impossible to cope any more. But don’t feel that you are alone;  1 in 2 people are being diagnosed with stress by their doctors everyday, and there is a noticeable increase especially in those who are in their 40’s. It seems that life today is much faster and demands on you are much higher, usually from the very people who love you. Stress is your body’s way of telling you that something needs to change and the only person that can make that decision is YOU. It’s Okay to admit that things are getting on top of you and that you are in fact...

Should I eat slowly to avoid weight gain?

Question.. Should I eat slowly to avoid weight gain? Answer.. Many people that struggle to maintain a healthy weight often find themselves eating mindlessly. Eating without conscious awareness. Obesity and weight-gain are inevitable when we eat non-consciously.  It has been scientifically proven that when we fill our plates to capacity and then eat whilst sitting in front of the television or computer screen we are prone to over eating. The reason for this is because our brain is busy engaging with the programme or whats happening on social media and not paying any attention to the food that we are putting into our mouths. The brain is wired to seek food and make sure that the body has a reserve stock of fat for lean times. The part of the brain that is making sure that we survive is doing it’s job and drives us to continually seek the calories we need in order to keep us alive. What it doesn’t understand is that food...
