I’ve always suffered from eczema as a child, and it deteriorated since 2013 when I was on antibiotics for 9 months after developing skin infection, food intolerance and allergies from a burn.

In 2014 I decided to go down the holistic path by having acupuncture and herbal medicine to treat my skin issues. I was also advised to become a vegetarian for 6 months to detox all the toxins in my body, especially from all the antibiotics that were in my system. Initially, I was horrified at the thought of giving up meat as I loved it so much and I couldn’t imagine life without it, since my nickname was “meat lover” from my dad! I also had to give up sugar/dairy/hot/chilli/spicy/salty/sour food as they would flare my skin. I remembered thinking that the next 6 months of my life was going to be torture and I couldn’t wait until July when I can finally eat normal food again!

meMy skin did improve through these treatments and it made me realise the power of wholefood and the healing effect that it plays on our health when we are ill, since diet is related.

I was diagnosed with candida overgrowth beginning of 2015 and my eczema came back stronger than ever. Based on my research, I believe I developed this due to the lack of good bacteria in my body as this was totally destroyed by the antibiotics I took 2 years ago, as well as dealing with my dad’s cancer and his eventual death.

I actually had no idea I had candida overgrowth until I did a radionics test which led to my diagnosis. If I went to see a doctor for my eczema, I would’ve been prescribed with more medication or steroid cream which may have resolved my eczema short term, but long term it would’ve came back on different parts of my body and stronger.

Since finding out that I had candida, I had to change my diet dramatically by eliminating sugar/dairy/wheat as they flared up my skin. I also did acupuncture and was told that I have a weak spleen which is linked to my stomach, so I have been advised which food would be good for my spleen and which food to avoid too.

One of the energy healers that I interviewed mentioned that the emotions back kneelinked to candida were anger, anxiety, overwhelm, unable to let go, stress, sadness, fear, frustration, helplessness, hopelessness, lack of confidence, scattered and too much responsibility. This was particularly true in my case as I developed candida at the 6 months mark of my dad’s cancer longevity. When my dad passed away, my candida went through the roof as my eczema was the worst it had ever been in my life. Looking back, I can see how my skin issues were directly related to the emotions.

In November 2015, I went to Bali for a fortnight and decided to let loose and eat local food which I knew would normally flare my skin up. What astonished me was that during the 2 weeks I was there, my skin healed immediately within the first few days, despite me breaking my anti candida diet.

Luckily I had the wonderful opportunity to interview Tyler Tolman in Bali tylerand asked what his insight to this would be. For those of you who don’t know who Tyler Tolman is, he’s an international holistic nutritionist and health practitioner, as well as a world renowned expert in wholefood initiating a self-care revolution alongside his father Don Tolman. Tyler shared the following wisdom of the 7 principles of health which assists in healing our illness- air, water, sunshine, walking, wholefood, non-toxic relationship and passion.

This made total sense to me as I was living majority of the 7 principles of health (except for wholefood) in Bali, hence why my eczema recovered in record rate of less than a week compared to the 9 months that I’ve had. Whereas back home in Australia, I was living wholly on 3 of the principles- wholefood, water and walking. I got the occasional sunshine and fresh air but not daily compared to Bali. The 7 principles of health disproved my initial theory that our diet is the only key to healing our health as we are what we eat. Without living majority of these principles, we would be making a very slow recovery with our illness.

left handFrom the interviews that I’ve conducted so far, I’ve also learnt that all physical illnesses manifest internally in our body from the emotional, mental and spiritual level. In order to heal ourselves, we need to let go of the negative emotions that we hold onto our body internally, as different parts of our organs represent different emotions.

Here are some explanations as to the underlying emotional issues linked to eczema. According to Louise Hay, it may be a result of breathtaking antagonism and mental eruptions. In Dr Grossbart’s book “Skin Deep”, he explains the link between our emotions and skin appearance. He says that eczema is caused by emotional turmoil and the repression of our feelings. He insists that we face our emotional issues head on with a commitment of self-love as well as counselling.

Eczema is also linked with anxiety, which isn’t necessarily always left palmexpressed through worry. It can be anger and a quick temper as a way with coping and dealing with our anxiety. Similarly, someone who has undergone high levels of stress, trauma, or suppressed very strong emotions over a period of time can eventually develop skin disorders.  This can be from suppressed anger, which affects the Liver; or from Sadness, which affects the Lungs.  Both of these organ systems, for example, have direct links to the quality and health of the skin.  Virtually any emotion in excess will affect one or more of the organ systems and can influence the skin.

In December 2015 I was advised to write a letter (and rip it up afterwards) to people I held a grudge against and most importantly my father (who I was grieving for), and pour my heart out to them as  storing those negative emotions internally was damaging me, as I had to let go and free myself from the pain. I found this therapeutic and it also healed my eczema completely as it disappeared for good since!

Also, based on my research, the products that we put on our body affects our skin as they contain chemicals which irritates it further (based on my experience). Products that are ‘eczema friendly’ may contain chemicals and steroids to ‘heal’ it short term, but it’ll come back stronger than previously as it only mask the symptom and not the cause. right hand

I started using Don Tolman’s Divine body butter as a moisturiser for my hands as it only contains natural ingredients- Palm Butter (from sustainable resources), Shea Butter, Avocado Butter, Almond Butter, Aloe Butter, Mango Butter, Beeswax and Citrus Essential Oils

In the evenings before I went to sleep, I use Don Tolman’s Gold ReLeaf to prevent me from scratching whilst asleep. This product is awesome and really did relieve the itchiness that I felt as evenings were usually the worst! This product contains essential oils- Safflower, 24k Pure Medicinal Gold, Wintergreen, Menthol, Camphor, Clove, Eucalyptus, Lavender, Orange, Arnica & Helichrysum.

If you cannot pronounce the ingredients in the product, I would not recommend using it!
