I stayed at the LifeCo health retreat in Phuket last week and it was an amazing experience! I learnt so much about detoxing and cleansing, as well as health which I will be incorporating into my upcoming book.


The staff were very friendly, dedicated and helpful as they explained to me what to expect during the detox, as well as supporting me through the journey which was very challenging! We were advised that the first three days will be the toughest as our body will be cleansing and we will be experiencing numerous symptoms and have no energy. After day 3, we would have more energy as our body adjusted to detoxing.


On my first day, I was advised that I was to undergo the Master Detox Program which is basically juicing for a week with no food. I was nervous and slightly apprehensive as I thought that I’d struggle and die without food for so long! I envisioned myself on starvation mode, weak, emancipated and begging for food for the whole week! I wasn’t sure how I’d survive and I realized that this was probably going to be the longest week of my life?


Here is my Master Detox Program menu that I was following for the week-

I had a Body Composition Analysis done which measured and analysed my body based on my weight, body fat and muscles. The data was compared to a desirable range for someone my age and I was shocked but thrilled about my results!


My Weight Range was within the desirable range (50.4 – 67.8kg)



My Body Fat % < 13%:) > was way below desirable (21.0 – 32.9%) which shocked and enlightened me as I thought I had more fat on my body especially on my tummy!

My Fat Mass (7.7kg) was way below desirable (13.4 – 24.8kg)


My Muscle Mass (47.9kg) was slightly above desirable (37.6 – 47.6kg) which shocked me as I don’t see myself as muscular as I usually need a guy to open things for me!


My BMI (21.4) was within the desirable range (18.5 – 24.9)

I was advised that I’d be undergoing a colon cleanse every day. This required me to use the machine below, where I had to insert a small tube into my rectum with water pumping through. The thought horrified me and it was certainly uncomfortable!

The reason behind colon cleanse is that water flushes out the fluids and waste in our bowels that have been undigested from meat and other foods we eat, the air we breathe, liquid we drink and the lifestyles we lead which cause mucus buildup in the colon. This buildup produces toxins, which enters the blood’s circulation slowly poisoning our body, contributing to a variety of symptoms- fatigue, bloating, irritated skin, weight gain, health problems such as depression, allergies, arthritis and cancer.

We were also encouraged to use the steam room and infra-red sauna daily as it helped our skin detox. I definitely took advantage of it!:) Other daily activities included morning walk at the beach and yoga as this helped our lymphatic system detox.




Here is an excerpt of my diary while I was detoxing-


Day 1

Yay! I survived my first day and that was challenging! I got my first “meal” (drink) at 8am which was a shake containing psyllium husk and bentonite clay which keeps you full and extracts all the toxins out of your body when you excrete.

At 8:15am we went for a walk at the beach which had a beautiful view. I relaxed at the infra red sauna, steam room, pool and got a massage afterwards.

I thought I’d be starving the whole day but I haven’t. I had a headache, aches and pains throughout my body, and was exhausted during the day. These were some of the side effects for the first three days which they mentioned – 

  • fatigue
  • weakness
  • headache
  • nausea
  • heart pumping at a high rate
  • dizziness
  • a white or yellow layer on the tongue
  • fluctuation in sleeping pattern
  • pains in different areas of the body
  • gas and bloating
  • sore throat and runny nose
  • feeling cold and shivering
  • bad breath and bad sweat odour
  • spots on the skin
  • acne, oily skin and dry hair
  • forgetfulness
  • emotional symptoms 


Day 2

I woke up this morning refreshed and energised which surprised me as I thought I’d be exhausted and lack energy! I rarely wake up feeling like this which is great!:)

I went for my morning walk at the beach, then did yoga afterwards which wiped me out! I find exercising while detoxing makes me exhausted due to lack of energy.

I’m starting to get really hungry and I am dying for some food! 

I can’t wait for day 4 as I’ll feel more vibrant!




Day 3

I woke up early today at 6:45am all energised and starving! I’m definitely having more energy when I wake up early which is rare but great. I’m so used to waking up with no energy, even if I slept for more than 8h or sleep in.

I got a massive stitch on the right side underneath my breast bone from my morning walk for half the day. I wasn’t feeling the best and received medical attention. I was advised that I was fine and it was nothing too serious. I may have too much acid in my stomach due to the fact that I’m detoxing which was normal.

I struggled to do anything and I was on starvation mode throughout the day. I was craving for food and I swear, even a packet of chips would make me happy! I’ve never been this hungry in my life and the first two days weren’t too bad compared to today. I have no idea how I’m going to survive for the rest of the week.


Day 4

Today I woke up with energy and I was not in pain compared to yesterday. I feel more calm, relaxed and at peace which is what I needed. I haven’t thought about anyone or anything as my focus has been on myself. I feel that something has shifted internally as I have inner peace.. something that I have been lacking in my life.

In the evening before going to bed, I experienced chest pains and stitch again. I wish I could eat something to ease the pain!



Day 5

Today was great!:) I woke up at 6:30am full of energy which is something I’m getting used to as it’s definitely foreign to me! I wasn’t hungry either and to be honest, I wasn’t hungry all day. I’m getting used to life without food and I haven’t been thinking about it.

One of the things that I’ve realised from this detox is that I have found inner peace within me. I feel like the stress that I’ve been experiencing since my dad’s cancer diagnosis from 2 years ago, to his eventual death last year, and my recent break up 4 months ago has disappeared.

I’ve also realised how important it is to take time out and chill. I’m so used to my fast pace life, as I never took time to relax and nourish myself, which is why I’m always burnt out and lack energy. I will definitely incorporate ‘me’ time instead of heavily focused on my next task/goal that I need to achieve to reach to the next level. This has been such a major learning curve for me and I’m so grateful for this experience.

I  feel so relaxed and at peace getting away from everything, that I just don’t want to go home! I have no idea how I will maintain this inner peace when I go back, but I must find a way.


Day 6

Yay! I made it to the last day of my master detox without food! I soo can’t wait for tomorrow where I can start eating again 🙂 

Dr Thomas Lodi came into the retreat and gave us an inspirational talk about detox and holistic health. I will interview him before I leave and incorporate it into my book.



Day 7

Yay!! I’m alive after a week without food:)  I weighed myself this morning and I lost 2kg from the detox. I was so thrilled to eat food again as I sure missed it! I was only allowed certain raw food as you can’t eat normal food as your body will not get used to it after a week without eating. To be honest, I didn’t feel that hungry and my appetite really have shrunk dramatically as I felt full after a few bites.
